Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official commented the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
